Since the dawn of time the willow plant has played an integral role in the development of the Human Race. It has provided shelter and protection for both man and beast. From crofting livestock to defending territory, building houses or agricultural aids, this versatile and beautiful plant will be around as long as mankind itself.
It also makes some pretty fine baskets too.....
Julies makes many functional baskets, some are traditional, while others are original designs. Frequently they use combinations of different varieties of willow, as well as different styles of weaving, to create patterns of colour and texture. Other designs include natural materials collected on the island. Shells are a unique feature in many of her baskets.
