Living Willow Structures
Willow takes root very easily from cuttings placed into the ground and this attribute is used when making living willow structures. Full length rods are stuck in the ground and then woven and tied together. These rods will then root and shoot to produce a living, growing, structure.
This technique is used to make features for your garden like fences, arbours and childrens play areas. Structures are normally planted in the winter and by late spring they will be covered in new leafy growth.

The structures need to be pruned once or twice a year if you want to keep the original shape. Alternatively the new growth can be woven or tied back into the structure so that the shape is continually evolving.
